Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri has been a popular Indian actress, who gained recognition for her performance in the films Hum Aapke Haiin Koun and Beta Saajan. She was first known for the role she played in the 1980s film Tezaab where she co-starred along with the veteran actor Anil Koopor. In the next film, Dil, Aamir Khan appeared alongside her. Born into a middle-class family in Mumbai she started learning dance at an early age. As a teen, she tried her hand at acting, but most of her early movies failed. The actress gained fame and was one of India's top film actresses. Following her wedding the actress took time away from performing before returning. In the past, she was an integral role in the film Gulaab Gang which was about the struggle of women living in India. Dixit has been nominated 15 times in the Filmfare Awards. She won 8 of these. Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian prize given to civilians in India is bestowed to her. Also, she has earned a name for social activism.
